Search engine optimisation
is a highly competitive industry with experts and companies in
the UK and the USA leading the field. Here we explain just what
goes into the positioning of a website to score highly with a
major search engine or directory. Whilst we do not give away
all our secrets, there is a large amount of knowledge and background
that will give you a good insight into how we go about getting
top positions for our clients.
Search Engine Placement - the fundamental attitude
to achieving top positions is the same now as it always has been,
a good, well written page with lots of focused text about the
subject of the page will always stand a chance of featuring well
with the major SEs.
Look at it from the point of view of the search engine and
you will understand why there is little need to "trick"
the search engines with java redirects etc. The search engine
wants to provide visitors with accurate, pertinent information
that answers the needs of the searcher's enquiry. The page should
not contain large graphics or animations that would take a long
time to download (it is said the average web surfer will only
wait 10 seconds for a page to load before clicking away to a
different site).
The average page should contain a minimum of 300 words of
body text that is totally focused on the keyword phrase (the
subject of the page) - and the resulting file size, including
graphics etc, should not exceed 50k maximum, preferably less.
This is vital to the process. Also, incoming links (from other
sites) are becoming important as "link popularity"
is employed by more and more search engines.
