The two major methods of online marketing are search engine
optimisation and pay-per-click advertising.
Search Engine Optimisation
The first method of marketing on the web, search engine optimisation,
came as people discovered the first search engines, AltaVista,
Lycos, Yahoo,
etc. This method entailed experimenting with keywords and keyphrases,
putting them in the titles, meta tags, body copy and link text.
The recipe varied from one search engine to the next, it was
easy at first, but a new standard was set when the search engine

not consider Pay Per Click advertising? This is where a company
can bid for position on the text adverts that run across the
top or down the side of search engine results pages.
