In SE Marketing & SE Optimisation - Actions speak louder
than words
Many, many companies now offer SE optimisation and marketing,
but very few of them have the expertise and experience that Search Engine Serious offer.
Whilst SEO remains the core component of search engine marketing, it is only a small part of marketing online. It remains
the best producer of return on investment, but for larger sites,
especially well-known brands, social networks are key to a vast
amount of traffic. However, certain sites can benefit from pay-per-click advertising. If your website is optimised but still very new on the web, pay-per-click can bring you instant traffic - and if you are in one of the most competitive niche markets where traditional SEO is very hard, you can gain visitors using pay-per-click.
Search Engine Serious client, Princess.co.uk, had their site optimised
and we achieved the following positions at Google, driving an
enviable amount of traffic worldwide. Check these results for
yourself and see how much competition there is - motor yacht
as a phrase has over two million competing pages!
Established in 1990, our
parent company X-Press Digital has provided a wide range of digital
publishing solutions to clients in the UK, America and France.
1995 saw the launch of the website design division of the
company with it's focus squarely on the visual appearance of
websites, embracing both JavaScript and Macromedia Flash technology.
By 1997, clients were concerned about the lack of traffic
to their websites - and in response X-Press began a programme
of research into the way that the major search engines rank sites.
The seeds of SES were sown.
It became obvious that our expertise with SEO
has become our greatest skill - and Search Engine Serious was
launched to market these skills.
Within six months we achieved the number one position at
Google for the phrase search engine optimisation.
Despite the fierce competition in this field we have consistently
held good positions across the board at all the major search
engines and we have been contracted to promote many high profile
clients.
If your site doesn't bring in new business, you need SEO - to have a website that doesn't rank highly
with the major search engines is seriously undervaluing one of
your most cost-effective and valuable assets.

SEO
SEO is a big part of the web design industry, but many people who don't work in that field don't know much about it and sometimes don't even know it exists. Let's take a look at what exactly SEO is, and talk a little bit about how it's done.
Websites can get traffic from a variety of sources, such as inbound links and online advertising campaigns. For most sites, the vast majority of traffic comes from search engines. Placement in search results affects how many people go to a certain site, so ranking even one position better can mean thousands of visitors for sites about popular topics. The whole goal of SEO is to make a site rank in the highest position possible.
To understand how to do this, you have to understand how search engines rank sites. Search engines use web crawlers (also called spiders) to go around to websites, analyse them, and then follow any links found to discover new sites and pages. There are over 200 individual factors that Google uses to rank a site, and we don't know what some of them are. Others we know, but we don't know how heavily any of these are weighted.
SEO is based on what we do know about how pages are ranked. Google has long stood by their claim that site owners should focus on developing good content, and that it will rank well. This is generally true, but sometimes site creators can do something that accidently hurts a site's ranking significantly, so using SEO tactics prevents this. We know that Google, as well as other search engines, use two major factors - keywords, and links. (Google is most commonly considered in SEO because they have over 85% market share of search traffic. Good SEO companies also monitor Yahoo and Bing, but usually ranking well in one means ranking well in all three.)
Keywords are the terms in your page that describe what the page is about. Search engines are generally able to identify important words, and identify what subject a page is about. This determines what search queries the page will rank for. Several years ago, keyword frequency also played a big part in how well a page was ranked, but this was abused too much and so it isn't used anymore.
Links from other sites to yours serve two purposes. For one thing, they help search engines discover and explore your site. Secondly, they are one of the biggest factors used to rank your site. Theoretically, having more links pointing to your site means that you are more popular, and that more people are talking about your site.
SEO companies help you build your site with optimisation in mind, so that it ranks well from the beginning. In addition, they can help you get started seeding out links to your site, so that it ranks well. Getting your site optimised for search engines means that you rank better, which ultimately leads to more traffic (and more revenue).
